Substance abuse can lead to life-threatening situations and its illicit influence has apparently increased manifold in the Northeastern states of the region. With Assam being the transit point, the alarming illegal trade has had ruined a number of households and the future of youth.
Although the law enforcing agencies have upped their vigil and have been successful in busting the nexus time and again but ferrying of the contraband is going on parallelly from the neighbouring countries. This is a grave concern and should be looked down upon with stringent measures.
In comparison to the previous years, the number of de-addiction and rehabilitation centres have popped up in the region providing the best of treatments to addicts but there are serious concerns with the rise in the drug dealers and evil influence it has on the present generation. The prime target has obviously been the students and educational institutions.
These youths obviously haven’t seen the dark days of the menace and become a victim. According to the National Crime Records Bureau, the rate of drug-related crimes have taken a steep rise in the country and apparently the spurt in drug addiction has given a rise in juvenile crimes.
The prime focus at present should be bringing out effective steps to combat the alarming menace so that this can be tackled and give a new life to the victims.
