    FIFA World Cup 2022 Qualifiers: India To Take On Oman In Guwahati’s Sarusajai Stadium On Sept 5

    The qualifier match will start at 7:30 pm IST and the game is hosted by the Assam Football Association

    The first qualifier match of 2022 FIFA World Cup will be held on September 5th, 2019 at the Sarusajai stadium in Guwahati. The Indian football team will challenge Oman and this is the second round of Asian qualifiers.

    The qualifier match will start at 7:30 pm IST and it is hosted by the Assam Football Association.

    Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal took to his Twitter handle and asked everyone to come and cheer for the Indian team. He wrote, “India takes on Oman in the first game of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers for Qatar 2022. The game will be held on September 5 at Sarusajai Stadium, Guwahati. Be there to cheer the Indian Football Team.”

    Meanwhile, Sunil Chettri, captain of the Indian Football Team said that he is optimistic about the team’s chances to win against Oman.

    The 27-member preliminary Indian Football squad are –

    Goalkeepers: Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Amrinder Singh, Kamaljit Singh, Vishal Kaith

    Defenders: Rahul Bheke, Nishu Kumar, Pritam Kotal, Anas Edathodika, Sandesh Jhingan, Narender Gahlot, Sarthak Golui, Adil Khan, Subhasish Bose, Mandar Rao Dessai

    Midfielders: Nikhil Poojary, Udanta Singh, Anirudh Thapa, Raynier Fernandes, Vinit Rai, Sahal Abdul Samad, Rowllin Borges, Brandon Fernandes, Lallianzuala Chhangte, Ashique Kuruniyan

    Forwards: Balwant Singh, Sunil Chhetri, Manvir Singh

    Notably, the Indian football team has been drawn alongside 2022 FIFA World Cup host Qatar, Oman, Afghanistan and Bangladesh in Group E matches and the first match is against Oman.

    The Sarusajai stadium located in Lokhra i is a football stadium and is the current home ground of Northeast United FC, an Indian professional football club. The stadium has a total capacity of 35,000 which was later reduced to 23,850 due to the installation of bucket seats for the 2017 FIFA Under-17 World Cup.

    The stadium in the year 2007, hosted the 33rd National Games of India and in 2016, it hosted the South Asian Games.
