As the final list of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) will be published on August 31st, 2019 at 10 am, people are forming queues outside the NRC Seva Kendras since morning in all districts of Assam.
Nearly 41 lakh people are expected to be left out from the final NRC list. To avert any untoward incident, security has been beefed up all across Assam. Over thousands of paramilitary and police personnel has been posted in districts bordering Bangladesh. Also, section 144 has been imposed across the state.
People who are included in the final NRC and may not check their application status if they are:
- Included in the final draft list
- Not excluded in Additional Draft Exclusions List,
- Not called for hearings held from July 5th, 2019 onwards.
The final draft NRC included around 2.89 crores out of the 3.29 crore applicants. The draft list left out over 40 lakh people from the citizens’ list. Over 36 lakh people who had been left out had filed claims against the exclusion. Meanwhile, of the 2.89 crores included, 2 lakh people filed objections.
