An FIR has been filed against Dhing MLA Aminul Islam for allegedly inflicting “hatred” and “demoralising” the strength of the Indian Army by posting “derogatory” statements against the security forces on Facebook.
On February 16th, 2019 social media users erupted in response to a post which appeared on a Facebook page which went by the name ‘Aminul Islam, MLA-Dhing’. In the post, Islam questioned why a terrorist attack takes place in Kashmir ahead of every parliamentary election in India.
On February 17th, 2019, Benudhar Nath, an advocate at the Gauhati High Court filed an FIR at the Latasil Police Station charging the Dhing MLA of committing a breach of the peace.
“Such comments are derogatory. I say that these comments are to bring hatred and demoralise the strength of Indian Army and Paramilitary such unwanted statement from him shows disrespect towards martyrs and amounts to disturb the social and communal harmony within the state. The statement reflects a communal statement towards religion. It is a criminal conspiracy,” the FIR stated.
The attack on a CRPF convoy in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district that killed more than 40 jawans on February 14th, 2019 is the biggest terror attack in the past five years. The Jaish suicide bomber, identified as Adil Ahmad Dar, rammed an SUV laden with over 250 kg of explosives into the CRPF bus carrying about 40 personnel.
