Prime Minister Narendra Modi took oath as the leader of the House at the inaugural session of the 17th Lok Sabha on June 17th, 2019(Monday). The Council of Ministers followed the Prime Minister in administering the oath.

As per reports, former Congress president and United Progressive Alliance(UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi might get a special slot to take oath in the two-day-long swearing-in ceremony.

Other members of Parliament (MPs) will be taking the oath in alphabetical order of the states after the Prime Minister and ministers are sworn in. In a first, the LS Secretariat has provided online formats of the oath. The members can take oath in 22 languages.

Seven-time BJP MP from Tikamgarh, Virendra Kumar has been appointed as the protem speaker of the 17th Lok Sabha. He will administer the oath to all the MPs and enable the House to elect a permanent Speaker.

As per reports, the first session of the 17th Lok Sabha will continue till June 26th, 2019 and it will have 30 sittings. The House will start a business after the Motion of Thanks by the  President Ram Nath Kovind and the Union Budget will be presented on July 5th, 2019 by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

It may be mentioned that a total of 46 Bills have lapsed on the dissolution of 16th Lok Sabha. They are likely to be revived and brought before Parliament.
