Guwahati: Winners of five constituencies of Assam By-polls took oath as members of the Assam Legislative Assembly on Thursday morning.

Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary administered the oath to BJP MLAs Phanidhar Talukdar, Rupjyoti Kurmi and Sushanta Borgohain, and ruling alliance UPPL’s Jiron Basumatary and Jolen Daimary.

The swearing-in-ceremony began with the playing of the National Anthem in instrumental and ended with pre-recorded singing of the state anthem ‘O Mor Aponar Desh’.

It may be mentioned that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ally United Peoples’ Party Liberal swept the by-polls as the former bagged Thowra, Bhabanipur and Mariani Assembly seats while the latter won Gossaigaon and Tamulpur Assembly seats.

The five assembly seats in Assam went to by-polls on October 30 last.
