    Flood Ready: Rs 1,066 Crore For Repair Of 271 Embankments In Assam

    The Assam government to repair and reconstruct 271 embankments in the State which were damaged in this year’s floods. An amount of Rs 1,066.04 crore has been sanctioned for it, State Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta informed.

    Addressing a press meet in Guwahati on December 23rd, 2019, Mahanta that under the SOPD (Flood Damage Repair), the sanction committee has sanctioned Rs 612 crore for 48 schemes.

    Under SDRF, the committee recommended a total of 102 schemes involving a cost of Rs 154.21 crore. Under CM Package for Barak Valley, 16 schemes were taken up for Rs 38 crore.

    “Under DoNER, two ‘totally washed away’ embankments have been taken up for Rs 48.75 crore. Under SOPD (General), 50 schemes have been taken up for Rs 113.08 crore. 53 schemes are being taken up for Rs 100 crore from NABARD,” he said.

    “Apart from repairing and reconstructing the breached embankments, we will also use rollers and lay sand gravels so that the embankments can be used as roads. The PWD will build roads on the embankments,” he added.

    The Minister said that the majority of the works are likely to be completed by April.
