Flood Situation Improves In Assam, Death Toll Reaches 87

Guwahati: Though the floodwaters showed a receding trend in Assam, the districts of Dhemaji, Darrang, Barpeta, Chirang, Morigaon, Nagaon, Hojai, Jorhat, Charaideo and Dibrugarh are still reeling underwaters. A population of 1,21,909 people are hit by the devastating floods in 2019 villages all across the state, as on August 3rd, 2019.

According to the daily flood bulletin by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), a total of 3,765 people are taking shelter in 23 relief camps. The death toll climbed to 87, as on August 3rd, 2019.

Relief distribution centres have also reduced from 62 to 21 and are presently operational at Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Charaideo and Dibrugarh districts. Around 17,563,70 hectares of cropland have been damaged in floodwaters in districts of Dhemaji, Barpeta, Morigaon, Hojai, Jorhat, Charaideo and Dibrugarh, as per the ASDMA report.

Meanwhile, the report also mentioned that Nimatighat river in Jorhat, Burhidihing in Dibrugarh, Desang in Sivasagar, Dhansiri in Golaghat and Jia Bharali in Sonitpur districts are flowing above the danger levels.
