Flood situation still grim in Assam, death toll rises to 18

Guwahati: The death count has risen to 18 (total-13 died in flood death) in the ongoing pre-monsoon floods and landslides in Assam.

Whereas, human life missing was reported to be one as on Saturday.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) over six lakh people have been hit in 31 districts.

The districts affected owing to the current flood situation in Assam are Baksa, Barpeta, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Cachar, Charaideo, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Dima-Hasao, Goalpara, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Hojai, Jorhat, Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Karbi Anglong West, Karimganj, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, South Salmara, Tinsukia, Udalguri.

Around 224 villages were affected in 31 districts, as per the ASDMA report.

A total of 74,907 people have been shifted to 496 relief camps.

Nagaon, Cachar, Hojai, Darrang are the worst-hit districts.

Around 93562.40 Crop Area (in Hectares) were damaged.

Meanwhile, the superintendent of Dima Hasao police in a notice has postponed the scheduled recruitment rally of May 23, 2022 to June 8, 2022, owing to the present situation of the district.

The SP said that the present situation in the district is not conducive for holding the recruitment rally and also because of disruption of all transport communication (road and railways).
