GUWAHATI: Arunachal Pradesh capital Itanagar to finally be on the aviation map as the Airports Authority of India is set to inaugurate a Greenfield airport in Arunachal Pradesh’s Hollongi, the Union Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) informed on Saturday.

The Hollongi airport is located some 25 km away from the state capital Itanagar of Arunachal Pradesh.

As per the ministry, the Greenfield airport project is expected to be completed by 2022 and will be able to fit in narrow-body jets like the Airbus A321 in the first phase.

On February 9, 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone for the Hollongi greenfield airport project. The project will be made at an estimated cost of Rs 995 crores and has a capacity of managing around 200 passengers in peak hours.

As per the ministry, the total spread area of the project is 320 hectares, with the terminal area is 4,100 square metres. It will have two parking bays.

Due to its location in the Indo-China bordering state, the Hollongi airport will also hold a strategic relevance for the country. It will also have various sustainability features like harvesting rainwater along with energy-efficient equipment.
