GUWAHATI: The Udalguri district which falls under the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) areas remained one of the prime focuses in the meeting of Council of Ministers of Assam on Thursday.
The BTC has been eying at a council poll.
While approving of setting up Assam Skill University at Darrang district, the state cabinet approved the Assam Skill University Bill; it also decided to complete the long-pending Dhansiri irrigation project in the district.
The university will be set up in an area of some 100 bighas of Mangaldoi in Darrang district with an expense of Rs 900 Crore.
Earlier, Mission Director of Assam Skill Development Mission, AP Tiwari said that the proposed institution would be known as ‘Skill City’. It is claimed to be the first skill university of the country with a capacity of 10 thousand seats.
The cabinet also gave its nod to the decision of taking credit of Rs 116 Crore from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) to complete the long-pending Dhansiri irrigation project in Udalguri district.
The project that started in 1975-76 has missed many deadlines. The state government had earlier said that it would be completed by March 2018. The initial cost estimate was fixed at Rs 15.83 crore, which has now crossed Rs 570 crore.
The cabinet also approved the MSME Bill and to exempt thethe Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council and Tiwa Autonomous Council areas from the propsoed Assam State Capital Region on Thursday.
