GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal pressed for at least one lakh Covid 19 tests daily and micro containment zones.
In view of the rising cases of coronavirus in the state, Sonowal on Tuesday held an online video conferencing with all the district administrations across the state and directed them to ready infrastructure needed to tackle the second wave of coronavirus.
Sonowal said, “We will be focusing on extensive testing and creation of micro-containment zones to combat this second wave. I have directed the DCs to expedite vaccination process, ramp up medical infra and create massive awareness among the masses.”
He asked all deputy commissioners of the districts to intensify Covid19 tests in their areas. Tests in railway stations, airports and bus terminals were asked to accelerate.
During the meeting, Sonowal ordered the health department to ensure conducting of at least one lakh Covid19 tests daily as well as to promote the vaccination drive.
To stop local infection, the chief minister also asked the district administrations to declare micro containment zones if necessary.
“Assam has succeeded in tackling the first wave and the health department and the administration have been asked to gear up to tackle the second wave in a similar successful manner,” said the CMO.
On Monday, 583 new cases have been reported in the state, the overall tally of the state has touched 2, 20,893.
