Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on January 1st, 2020, said that the martyrs of the Assam Movement are the ‘Jatiya Nayaks’ of the state and therefore the government will set up a Swahhid Kshetra and Udyan in the city.
“For us, martyrs of the Assam Movement are the Jatiyo Nayaks of our state. To keep alive the memories of their immense struggle and ultimate sacrifice, we have decided to set up Swahid Kshetra and Udyan in Guwahati at the cost of Rs 200 crore,” Sonowal said while interacting with the media persons on the first day of the year.
The CM also assured the indigenous people of the state would always be protected. “It is our government which will implement Clauses of the Assam Accord in spirit and we are taking all steps to provide Constitutional Safeguards for our people,” he added.
Besides, Sonowal claimed that his government has distributed more than 54,000 land pattas across the state. “Distribution of Land Pattas among the landless indigenous people reiterates our commitment to the Assamese society,” he added.
