Guwahati: An injured hoolock gibbon was rescued by forest officials of Kamrup West division from Kathalguri area of Kamrup district in Assam on Tuesday.

Reportedly, the hoolock gibbon was electrocuted after coming in contact with a high voltage electric line following which it suffered injuries to one limb.

Forest officials informed that after preliminary treatment, the injured gibbon was sent to the Assam State Zoo for better treatment.

The hoolock gibbons are three primate species of genus Hoolock in the gibbon family, Hylobatidae, native to eastern Bangladesh, Northeast India, Myanmar, and Southwest China.
