Guwahati: In a shocking incident, a woman journalist was brutally attacked by a former BJP ward commissioner and a controversial businessman in Jorhat town in Assam.

According to reports, the person identified as Ankur Gupta allegedly snatched away the mobile phones of two video journalists of a private satellite channel following an argument.

In the meanwhile, the woman journalist namely Priyanka Senapati who was also on the ground covering news on the ongoing Diwali festival season questioned him for the misbehaviour.

 “I was covering a story in Kasuri Goli in Jorhat town when businessman Ankur Gupta snatched away the mobile phones of my fellow video journalists after pulling down the shutter of his shop. When I questioned him for his misbehaviour, he dragged me towards the road in front of many people in the Rupahi Ali locality and pushed me on the road,” said Priyanka Senapati to the media.

The scuffle resulted in a fracture on her left hand, informed the doctor to the victim journo.

On the other hand, a case was registered against the controversial businessman and BJP member at the Jorhat Police Station.

It is learned that the police have detained the controversial BJP leader and businessman for questioning.

However, no action has been initiated against the attacker till the filing of this report, sources informed.
