Guwahati: Former Congress MLA Sushanta Borgohain formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of state president Bhabesh Kalita, Minister Pijush Hazarika, MP Pallab Lochan Das, senior party leaders Phani Sarma, Kushal Duwari and Pulak Gohain on Sunday.
Before joining BJP formally Sushanta Borgohain met Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday at his residence.
Taking to his official Twitter handle, CM Sarma said, “I am glad to have met Hon MLA of Thowra Sri Sushanta Borgohain, who resigned from @INCIndia on July 31, & will join @BJP4India today. Young, and energetic, his joining our fold will strengthen and benefit the party immensely. I welcome him to the BJP Pariwaar.”
Sushanta Borgohain earlier tendered his resignation as Thowra constituency MLA to the Assam Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary on Saturday.
In a letter to the Assam Assembly Speaker, Sushanta Borgohain said, “I hereby tender my resignation of my seat in the assembly with effect from July 31, 2021.”
Sushanta Borgohain had voluntarily given up the membership of the Congress party last Friday.
Simultaneously, he also tendered his resignation from the chairmanship of the disciplinary committee of the Party.
