Former Tripura minister detained over molestation charges in Delhi

Guwahati: Mevar Kumar Jamatia, a former minister and MLA of the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) was detained by Delhi police on Wednesday for allegedly molesting an indigenous girl.

According to sources, the victim is a student who is presently residing in Delhi to pursue higher education.

“This is to inform that a team from the Delhi police had visited Tripura Bhawan twice yesterday night and met the victim, a student who is temporarily residing at Bhawan,” joint resident commissioner of Tripura Bhawan in Delhi stated in letter.

The letter added, “They recorded her statement regarding her complaint against Mevar Kr Jamatia, MLA.”

“The police team visited again early the morning and brought Mevar Kr Jamatia and victim to the police station. This is for information and necessary action please,” the letter further added.
