Guwahati: Four detained associates of Khalistani preacher Amritpal Singh on Sunday were flown to Assam’s Dibrugarh by a Special Air Force aircraft.

As per sources, the arrested persons will most likely be imprisoned in the Dibrugarh Central Jail.

The case of Amritpal Singh’s aides would be handled by Assam’s top police official along with a 27-member Punjab Police team, including the IG Prison, sources stated.

Currently, the four top aides of the radical Sikh preacher are kept in Dibrugarh central jail, sources said.

On Saturday, Punjab Police launched a “massive state-wide cordon and search operations (CASO)” in the state against elements of the ‘Waris Punjab De’.

However, during the operation, police arrested 78 members of Singh’s outfit while several others were detained for questioning.

Meanwhile, security has been tightened at several places in Punjab and internet and SMS services have been suspended in the state till March 20 in the interest of public safety. Tight security arrangements have been made near village Jallupur Khera in Amritsar, the native place of Amritpal Singh.

During the state-wide operation, the police recovered nine weapons, including one .315 bore rifle, seven rifles of 12 bore, one revolver, and 373 live cartridges of a different calibre.

The police said that Waris Punjab De elements are involved in four criminal cases relating to spreading disharmony among classes, attempt to murder, attack on police persons and creating obstructions in the lawful discharge of duties of public servants.
