    Four persons buried alive in Arunachal Pradesh landslide

    As per Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) report, there is likelihood of very heavy rain in next few days across Arunachal Pradesh

    Guwahati: In a tragic incident, at least four persons of a family including a minor were buried alive in a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall at Tigdo village in Arunachal Pradesh’s Papum Pare district on Friday.

    The deceased have been identified as Tana Martin, Tana John, Yabung Lindum and a minor Tana Yasum.

    Locals said the incident occurred at around 2.30 am and the victims died when their residence was buried by a gushing mudslide.

    Police sources said that all the bodies of the victims have been recovered from the debris. It took about an hour to retrieve the bodies. A case of unnatural death has been registered.

    Police said the house in which the victims were living was constructed after a new earth cutting formation.

    Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu said, “Saddened by a tragedy that struck Tigdo village in Papumpare district this morning where four members of a family perished in a landslide. May the deceased rest in eternal peace.”

    The chief minister announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to next of kin of the deceased.

    He added, “As per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) report, there is a likelihood of very heavy rain in next few days across Arunachal. I request every one to take all precautionary measures & to refrain from staying at vulnerable locations. In case of emergency contact district administration.”
