“From ‘ignored’ to ‘thriving’ NE, NDA govt working on Act East Policy”: PM Modi in poll bound Manipur
Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that his government has brought Delhi closer to the northeast and Manipur. Modi who was visiting Imphal in the poll bound Manipur launched multiple numbers of development projects ahead of the assembly elections due in the state early next year.
Slamming the previous Congress government of dividing the people of the state in the name of hill and valley, PM Modi said, “Our government has bridged the distances between the people living in the hills and valleys of the state and now people have started to march on the path of progress in union. However, conspiracy has been ongoing to unstable the state again by the power hungry parties. But I am glad that people of Manipur have already identified them and uprooting their attempts.”

He accused the previous central government of completely ignoring the northeast. “Our government has not only accelerated the ‘Act East policy’ but also brought the entire Delhi at the doorsteps of the northeast as well as Manipur. After 2014, there is a major shift in how the Northeast is viewed. Development needs of this region aren’t merely decided from Delhi. They are decided after consulting the people of the different states. Today so many top Union Ministers hail from the northeast,” he added.
The PM also reminded the people that it was his government which has renamed the Mount Harriet, an island peak in Andaman and Nicobar islands as Mount Manipur to pay tribute the contribution of Manipur in the freedom movement of India.
“It is the double engine government of BJP that has transformed the entire northeast and Manipur will play a key role as the hub of the country’s international trade and connectivity in the coming days. From the principal of ‘don’t look east’ which dominated the corridors of power for decades, the NDA government is driven by the Mantra of ‘Act East’,” the PM said.
On Tuesday, the Prime Minister inaugurated an Integrated Command and Control Centre for the Imphal Smart City Mission, development of western river front on Imphal river, an industrial training institute (ITI) and a 200-bed semi-permanent Covid hospital, among others.
