The woman who identifies herself as Rajini Diriks had uploaded a video on YouTube in 2018 appealing to the people to help her reconnect with her mother, who she believes still resides in Tezpur or nearby in upper Assam’s Sonitpur district.

According to Rajini, she was born in Sonitpur and was adopted at the age of 2. Speaking to TIME8, Rajini revealed that she was born in Tezpur on the 24th of February 1983. She was adopted by a Belgian couple from the Missionaries of Charity, Kolkata in 1985, after being routed through the organisation’s branch in Assam’s Tezpur.

“I am desperately searching for my mother and her other relatives. My mother’s name is Rabiya. I don’t know her last name. At the time of my birth she was 35 years old. So now she is around 70 years old. She is a Muslim and lives in Tezpur or somewhere nearby Tezpur in Sonitpur,” Rajini said in a YouTube video.

She presently stays in Belgium and is working as a civil servant. The court also issued notices to the Superintendent of Police, Tezpur, Missionaries of Charity in Tezpur and Kolkata. The respondents have been directed to reply after six weeks when the petition will be listed before the court.
