Guwahati: At a time when the state of Assam has been reeling under heavy flood, Gauhati high court has directed the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption, Guwahati to initiate a probe against the misappropriation of funds in the water resource department of Dhemaji and North Lakhimpur.
The high court response came following the Amguri Naba Nirman Samity, a NGO, moved the court via a PIL seeking a direction to authorities to consider the representation submitted by it relating to alleged misappropriation of funds during the period from 2011 to 2018 in the Dhemaji Water Resource Division, and North Lakhimpur Water Resource Division, under the state government.
In an affidavit filed by the government side said that Assam police CID has initiated steps after receiving the complaint filed by the petitioner on April 20, 2021 in connection with corrupt practice and misappropriation of government funds by the government officials and contractors during the period from 2011 to 2018 by both Dhemaji and North Lakhimpur Water Resource Divisions and the request for high level investigations against the said corruption.
The CID informed the court that it had forwarded the matter to Superintendent of Police, Directorate of Vigilance & Anti Corruption for necessary action. However, petitioner side complained that till date the respondent authorities have not taken any necessary steps.
