Gauhati High Court orders normal traffic flow on NH-306

The division bench has directed the railways to ensure movements of trains from Silchar in Assam to Bhairabi in Mizoram for ferrying of goods and traffic.

Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court on Thursday has directed the Centre, Assam and Mizoram governments to take necessary steps to ensure normal flow of traffic and essential items on National Highway-306 and inter-state highway connecting two states.

The development came after the Mizoram Bar Association on Monday filed a petition to ensure there was no disruption in supply of essentials from the Assam side.

A bench of Chief Justice N kotiswar Singh and Justice Manish Choudhury has passed the order on Thursday.

The division bench has also directed the railways to ensure movements of trains from Silchar in Assam to Bhairabi in Mizoram for ferrying of goods and traffic.

The court has given the centre, Assam and Mizoram to file their responses within three weeks. The case is listed for December 4.

It can be mentioned here that the border dispute between Mizoram and Assam flared up on October 9 after a farm hut and plantations were damaged on the disputed land near Thinghlun village in west Mizoram’s Mamit district.

Agitation along the Assam-Mizoram border area stopped after the chief secretary level meeting between Assam and Mizoram and chaired by Union Home Secretary Ajay Kuman Bhalla through video conferencing on November 8.
