GUWAHATI: The Gauhati University (GU) on Sunday said that the premier higher education institute has no decision to discontinue any of the existing courses.
Secretary of University Classes, GU, Prof Dilip Bora said, “There is no such notification to discontinue any of the existing course provided by the Gauhati University.”
Recently, certain local newspapers reported that the Gauhati University has decided to cease the course – Six Months Certificate Course in Mising and Rabha Languages.
Rubbishing the news report, Bora said, “The report has no basis and was completely misleading.”
“The results of the current sessions of the courses are not announced due to the prevailing situations caused by the pandemic Covid-19. Consequently, the admission process for the next sessions is also delayed. However, recently we have initiated the process for online admission for the post-graduate courses following the guideline issued by the University Grant Commission,” Bora said.
Prof Bora added, “We are not in favour of closure of any courses.”
GU Registrar, Dr Hemanta Kumar Nath said, “The Centre for Performing Arts and the Centre for Languages and Cultural Studies have been merged recently and renamed as Centre for Performing Arts and Culture Studies. The merged has been intended to strengthen the existing courses and not aimed to discontinue courses.”
