Guwahati: The Commissioner of Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has directed all the concerned owners of Shopping Malls and business establishments to stop collecting parking fees from their customers in the name of valet parking.

The order comes into force with immediate effect.

The development came after numerous public complaints were received against some shopping malls and other business establishments in the Guwahati Municipal Corporation area regarding collecting parking fees from their customers in the name of valet parking.

The commissioner in its order has also mentioned that during a field visit by the GMC officials, the staff of the concerned malls are collecting fees from the customers in the name of valet parking.

Notably, when the building permit is granted against a shopping mall sufficient parking facility is to be kept reserved mandatorily in the proposed building and also during the issuance of a trade licence of any shopping mall, it is checked whether there is enough parking space in the compound for parking of the vehicles of their customer.
