GUWAHATI: The veterinary branch of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation lifted 35 straying cattle from the Boragaon dumping ground on Friday and Saturday for causing inconvenience in the movement of GMC waste dumping vehicles.
“Many of the cattle were found wandering in the dumping ground. Accordingly, 35 straying cattle were lifted from the dumping ground. The lifted cattle will be taken to the Jalukbari animal pound. The cattle will be released after the owners pay a fine of Rs 500 against per cattle. Otherwise, the cattle will be auctioned if no claim is made within seven days,” the GMC said.
The GMC further stressed that the straying cattle might produce contaminated milk for it consumes the waste materials of the dumping ground in a routine manner. “During the prevailing situations of the Covid-19 pandemic, the contaminated milk produced by the straying cattle may cause health disorder to the city residents,” the GMC said.
