GNLA cadre apprehended in South Garo Hills


Tura, September 29: Meghalaya Police apprehended one suspected member of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) from South Garo Hills on Thursday.

Police sources said that on Thursday based on specific input one operation was initiated by the South Garo Hills police and SF10 Commandos at Dosogre village in Baghmara. The team was able to nab one person suspected to be a cadre of the GNLA.

The suspected person has been identified as Bande Ch Marak, a resident of Telikali village. During interrogation it came to light person joined GNLA in the year 2012, but did not complete the training.

He has been said to be with Commander-in-chief Sohan D Shira for the last two years.

According to the police source, Marak has confessed about he was present in last two encounters with police which occurred in South Garo Hills and managed to escape during the encounter. Unable to contact other members he took shelter in the village.

However, no arms were recovered from him. He has also confessed to his presence along with Sohan in the police personnel ambush few years ago, where several policemen were  killed in both the Kolapara and Panda ambush.
