“Go For Glory”: Assam CM takes out cycle rally to wish success to Lovlina Borgohain
Guwahati: Assam’s first female boxer Lovlina Borgohain who has already reached Tokyo for the biggest sporting event of Olympics received warm wishes on Wednesday when state chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and many others took out a bicycle rally in the city to send her best wishes.
Sarma, Assam Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary, and Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia participated in the bicycle rally- “Go for Glory – Lovlina”- along with several ministers, scores of MLAs, and senior officials that started at Last Gate and concluded at Nehru Stadium in Guwahati.

“We are so proud of Lovlina who is the first female athlete from #Assam to represent India at the #Olympics & the second boxer after Shiva Thapa to participate in the same from the state,” the CM tweeted thereafter.
Lovlina will begin her Olympic campaign in the women’s 69kg welterweight category on July 24. The CM has urged everyone in the state to pray for her success.
In June, the state government had extended financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the Arjuna awardee to help her prepare for the mega sporting event.
Lovlina, 23, who had qualified for the Tokyo Olympics in March last year, will be competing in the welterweight category (69 kg).
The much-delayed Tokyo Olympics were scheduled from July 23 to August 8.
