The former Golaghat superintendent of excise Jibon Phukan, who was caught red-handed on a charge of taking a bribe, has been convicted and sentenced for five years imprisonment with a fine of Rs 50000 by the court on May 24th, 2019.
The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption sleuths on May 24th, 2019 caught the Golaghat superintendent of excise Jibon Phukan red-handed on a charge of taking a bribe of Rs 25000 from one Dipanita Dowara on June 30th, 2016. He was arrested and forwarded into judicial custody on July 1st, 2019.
On June 29th, 2019, Dowara of Bongaon under Kamargaon police station in Golaghat district had lodged a complaint stating that she looks after one wine Bar of her sister Pariniita Dutta. As Parinita Dutta was physically not sound to look after the wine shop, Dipanita Dowara had submitted a petition to the Deputy Commissioner Golaghat through the Superintendent of Excise, Golaghat for permission for shifting the wine shop to 200 meter away from its original location by the side of the National Highway as per verdict of the Hon’ble Supreme Court. But accused Jibon Phukan, the then Superintendent of Excise of Golaghat district demanded a bribe of Rs. 30,000 to do the job. However, later he reduced the bribe amount to Rs. 25,000.
Later, a case (No 05/2016) under sections 7, 13(1)(d) and 13(2) of the PC Act, 1988 was registered against the accused.
