Guwahati: In a gruesome incident that happened on Thursday, tea garden workers at Bijuli Tea Estate in Golaghat District stabbed to death a leopard that ventured into their residences.

At least four tea garden workers suffered severe injuries after they were attacked by the leopard.

Following this, one of the tea garden worker picked up a machete in self-defence and struck the leopard, reportedly on its neck, legs and back, killing it on the spot.

The injured tea garden worker were identified as Bishal Majhi, Dhaniram Surun, Rameswar Majhi and Deepak Lakra.

Of the four workers, three critically injured have been admitted to Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital in Golaghat.

On learning about the incident, a team of Golaghat Forest Department personnel rushed to the spot, recovered the leopard and performed last rites.

Furthermore, the Golaghat Forest Department will conduct an investigation into the whole incident, informed a district forest official.
