Guwahati: Reacting to the news of industrialist Mukesh Ambani donating 20 kgs of gold to install three ‘koloh’s atop the dome of Kamakhya Temple, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Assam, on Tuesday said that people of Assam would have been more benefited had he more focused on the commitment he gave on 2018.
In 2018, during “Advantage Assam Global Investors Summit” in Guwahati, the Reliance industry owner, Ambani, had committed to invest Rs 2,500 crore rupees in various sectors in Assam and creating at least 80,000 jobs in the process in three years.
State Chairman of LDP Holiram Terang appealed to Mukesh Ambani that if he really cares for the wellbeing of the people of Assam, he should live by his words which he committed two years back.
“The job of a big corporation like Reliance is to invest on businesses and creating jobs, not to gold plating temples”, said National Chairman of LDP Prodyut Bora in the statement.
Bora further added that, “Currently there are 20 lakhs unemployed youth in the state as registered in the employment exchanges alone. A recent report from Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) stated that the state’s unemployment rate have moved from 0.7% to staggering 11% from the year 2016 to 2020. Economic situation of the state is shambling. In such a situation Assam is in need of investment for economic growth and stability.”
The LPD has also criticised the BJP-led government for their lackadaisical attitude towards the unemployment issue of the state and demanded for the actual status Rs 2,500 crore investment in the state as committed by Reliance Industries from the Assam Government.
