Govt allows domestic flights to operate at full capacity from Oct 18
Guwahati: Domestic flight would now be able to fly with 100% seat capacity as the Civil Ministry on Tuesday approved air operations for scheduled domestic flights with 100% capacity.
The ministry stated in its order that “it has been decided to restore the scheduled domestic air operation with effect from October 18, 2021, without any capacity restriction”.
Covid guidelines and SOPs still need to be followed at airports as well as on airplanes, as per the notification issued. Strict adherence to these regulations would be ensured by authorities.
The move by the government will allow airlines to operate more flights and increase passenger loads as the festive season begins across India.
The decision to lift the restriction comes days after credit ratings agency ICRA said domestic air passenger traffic grew by 2-3 per cent at around 69 lakh in September as compared to around 67 lakh in August.
Airlines witnessed around 61,100 departures in September as compared to 39,628 departures in the same month of 2020, it said, adding that on a sequential basis, the number of departures in the month gone by were higher by around 6 per cent, as COVID-19 infections demonstrated a downward trajectory.
Since May 2020, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has capped domestic airline capacity. Currently, the cap on domestic flight capacity is set at 85 percent.
Between August 12 and September 18, the capacity cap was 72.5 percent, 65 percent between July 5 and August 12, and 50 percent between June 1 and July 5.
