Guwahati, January 12: Sahitya Akademi awardee Assamese litterateur Dr Hiren Gohain on Saturday stated that the present government is doing injustice to the indigenous people of the state.
“It’s a matter of shame that due to the silence of few cowards, differently-abled persons had to come out to protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016. Nothing is possible without a revolution. The present government is doing injustice to the indigenous people,” said Gohain while addressing a meeting here organised by the Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha, Assam.
Gohain along with Akhil Gogoi and Manjit Mahanta were booked by police for sedition after their comments during a protest against the Bill. They were granted interim bail by the Gauhati High Court.
“You are not pratibandhi (differently-abled), Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is the bigger pratibandhi as he is for the Bill. The sedition case will act as a fuel in fire,” said Mahanta.
