GUWAHATI: The Koch Rajbongshi Sahitya Sabha (KRSS) on Thursday submitted the common resolution of all the Koch Rajbongshi organisations of Assam and the Justification Report for the inclusion of the Koch Rajbongshis of Assam in the list of Scheduled Tribe (ST).
The KRSS submitting the report to state’s finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that it has included all the scientific and cultural evidence required to establish the reasons why the Koch Rajbongshi community needed to be granted the ST status.
Dwijendra Nath Bhakat, President of KRSS said, “This report has all the required evidence supporting our demand. We also demand enlisting of the Koch Rajbongshis of Assam as ST (Plain) in the undivided Goalpara and as ST (New) in the rest of Assam.”
The demand for ST status by the community has been pending before the Centre for decades. Though successive governments in Delhi have been promising of granting the ST status to Assam’s six indigenous communities including Rajbongshis, the matter is still pending.
He added, “The state government must send the report to the Centre before October 30 and we want the government to grant the ST status before the 2021 state polls.”
