Guwahati: Several workers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) were detained by the police during a protest at Raj Bhawan in Guwahati on Saturday.

In an effort to draw attention to the flooding issue in Assam, AAP workers were protesting by covering their mouth with black clothes outside Raj Bhawan.

According to sources, they were about to submit a memorandum on the flood issue to Governor Professor Jagadish Mukhi.

Meanwhile, the demonstrators claimed that the male police officers had mistreated the female protester.

Police claimed that they do not have authorization to hold the protest, as a result they were detained.

On Friday, massive flooding in the state has claimed 10 more lives in the last 24 hours, pushing the death toll up to 117, said Assam State Disaster Management Authority.

Over 33 lakh people across 28 districts are reeling under flood waters.
