Guwahati: Huge ruckus erupted at the Gauhati University campus on Tuesday when hundreds of students demonstrated a protest against the alleged anomalies in the results of fifth semester, declared recently.
Students were offended as many of their results were shown either fail or absent despite sitting for the exams. They claimed that when confronted with the university authority, the latter asked for fees to conduct a re-evolution of their answer papers.
“First they have goofed up with the result. Then when we complained, now the GU authority is asking us to pay Rs 500-700 for rechecking of each paper. Is this how the student community is treated?” said the angry students.
The students demanded the university authority to conduct a re-evolution of exam papers without fee and to declare the results immediately.
“If our demands were not addressed then students of all 341 colleges under the Gauhati University will gather here and we will close the university gates,” the students said.
Later, police were also deployed to control the students. Scuffle between the police forces and students were also reported. Police then detained the students and disperse the crowd.
