Jumbo Roofings and Tiles, a Guwahati-based manufacturer, supplier of Fibre Cement Corrugated Sheets and roofing accessories, donated Rs 25 lakh to aid Assam government’s fight against the highly contagious novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Manoj Kayal, Deepak Kayal and Ravi Agarwal of Jumbo Roofings handed over the cheque to Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on April 9th, 2020 as its “commitment to stand by the people of Assam in their fight against coronavirus pandemic”.
Minister of State Health and Family Welfare Pijush Hazarika was also present on the occasion.
Manoj Kayal and Deepak Kayal are also the Directors of Guwahati-based TIME8 Digital News Channel.
It may be mentioned that the Income Tax Department and the Finance Ministry has clarified that all donations to Assam Arogya Nidhi are eligible for 100 per cent deduction as per Sec 80G (1).
In a letter to the National Health Mission Director, Sumit Purkayastha, Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax (ACIT) (Exemption) stated that as per provision of Sec. 80G (2) (iiihb) of the Income tax Act, donation made to any fund set up by a State Government to provide medical relief to the poor is eligible for 100 per cent deduction as per Sec 80G (1).
“Since the Assam Arogya Nidhi will manage the fund set up by the State government to provide medical relief to the poor, the donation made to the Trust which is in fact a fund is eligible for 100 per cent deduction as per Sec 80G (1),” the letter further mentioned.
A total of 12,934 people have contributed to Assam Arogya Nidhi and a sum of Rs 31.94 crore has been raised so far.
