Guwahati: Amidst the Durga puja festivities, Sadau Axom Ektrit Yuva Parishad on Tuesday forced the closure of a shopping mall located in the Beltola area of Guwahati city till ‘Vijaya Dashami’ (tenth day of Durga Puja celebrations).
The Sadau Axom Ektrit Yuva Parishad’s action came to light after a city-based journalist and his wife was allegedly misbehaved and abused by the management of the shopping mall on Monday night.
Reportedly, the Beltola based shopping mall flouted the COVID-19 guidelines by operating during the restricted hours, they kept the mall open for its customers till 10 pm on the previous night, following which the journalist questioned the management over violation of the Standard operating procedure by the state government.
It has been alleged by the local youth group that the employees of the Vishal Mega Mart had physically abused the journalist and misbehaved with his wife after they questioned over COVID-19 protocol violation.
A police complaint was also lodged in connection to the incident at Basistha Police station by the journalist.
Meanwhile, one of the members of the Sadau Axom Ektrit Yuva Parishad while addressing the media said, “We won’t allow the management of the Vishal Mega Mart to operate until they apologize before the journalist and his wife for their misbehaviour in public. We will make sure that they cannot operate till ‘Vijaya Dashami’. Bullying any journalists or their family shall not be tolerated in Assam.”
