Guwahati-Based Zoologist Discovers ‘Crying Snake’ In Arunachal Pradesh

The crying keelback had to be compared with 44 species of snakes worldwide under the genus Hebius.

Creating quite a buzz in Arunachal Pradesh’s newly formed Lepa Rada district, a Guwahati-based Zoologist has discovered a species of the snake that ‘cries’.

Jayaditya Purkayastha, a zoologist based in Guwahati, Assam, claimed to have located the unique snake—scientifically known as ‘Hebius Lacrima’– in Arunachal’s Barsar district.

This snake is non-venomous and measured 48.7 centimeters in length, as per details recently published in a scientific journal.

The snake was spotted by Purkaystha in a paddy field in the outskirts of Basar.
