Guwahati Blast: Assam Congress Slams CM Sonowal Over Law And Order

Assam Congress president Ripun Borah on May 15th, 2019, while condemning the blast in Guwahati, slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party-led state government for their failure to maintain the law and order in the state.

“It is unfortunate to say that the state government has failed to maintain the law and order in the state. The law and order situation in the state is deteriorating,” Ripun Borah said in a press communiqué.

He further said that this was a cowardly attack. He further demanded appropriate medical assistance to the injured.

As per information available, as many as 11 people sustained severe injuries in the blast. Two persons are said to be critical. Injured persons have been rushed to a Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), KGMT Hospital and Nemcare Super Speciality Hospital.

Two of the injured have been identified as Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawan Amulya Lal and Ramesh Lal. The other injured are Fardin Rahman, Ahmed Kumar, Amit Kansal, Riya Kansal, Hirakjyoti Baruah, Kalyan Baishya and Edward Mama.

The blast took place near the Guwahati Central shopping mall located at RG Baruah road.

Sitting Congress MP from MP Gaurav Gogoi, while condemning the heinous incident, tweeted as: “I strongly condemn the grenade blast in Guwahati, Assam. This nothing but a weak attempt to intimidate the peace loving people of Assam. Assamese people will respond with courage and strength. My prayers for the injured. I urge the state government to take stringent action.”

Congress leader Bobbeeta Sharma, who contested the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Guwahati Lok Sabha Constituency, also condemned the incident and demanded probe into the incident.

Meanwhile, the Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio also condemned the incident and tweeted as: “I am saddened about the blast in #Guwahati #Assam which targeted civilians. I condemn the horrific act and hope the perpetrators are brought to justice. My prayers for the speedy recovery of those injured.”
