Guwahati Blast: CM Sonowal Convenes High-Level Meeting With Top Cops

Guwahati, May 16, 2019

The Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on May 16th, 2019 convened a high-level meeting with the top cops of Assam police at the Janata Bhawan on security issues after the grenade blast incident in Guwahati on May 15th, 2019 evening which left 12 people injured.

Assam director general of police Kuladhar Saikia and additional director general of police Mukesh Agarwal were present in the meeting.

Speaking to the media persons here in Guwahati, CM Sonowal said, “We condemned the heinous incident. The DGP has been directed for investigation into the case. No one will be excused whoever was involved in the blast.”

On the other hand, the Guwahati police on May 16th, 2019, arrested popular Assamese actress Jahnabi Saikia and pro-talk ULFA leader Pranamoy Rajguru in the Guwahati blast.

Acting on a tip-off, a special investigating team today launched a massive search operation and recovered one 9MM pistol, 35 rounds of live bullets, 70 kg of explosive materials used to make IEDs, ULFA-I flag, a scooty suspected to have been used in the blast and some objectionable documents from the possession of Saikia.

Security has been beefed up following the blast near the Guwahati Central shopping mall located at the RG Baruah road at around 8 pm on May 15th, 2019.

Assam Congress president Ripun Borah, Congress MP from Kaliabor Lok Sabha constituency Gaurav Gogoi, Congress leader Bobbeeta Sharma and Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio alson condemned the incident and demanded an investigation into the incident.

On May 15th, 2019, Ripun Borah slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party-led state government for its failure to maintain law and order in the state.
