Guwahati Blast: CM Sonowal Directs DGP To Take Stringent Action Against Perpetrators

Guwahati, May 16, 2019

The Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on May 16th, 2019, who convened a high-level meeting with the top cops on matters related to the grenade blast in Guwahati on May 15th, 2019, directed the director general of police Kuladhar Saikia to take stringent action against the perpetrators.

Speaking to the media persons after the meeting, the DGP said, “All the matters related to the yesterday’s blast have been discussed in the meeting. The Chief Minister took stock of the progress of the investigation into the case.”

The chief minister also directed the DGP to take steps to prevent repetition of such heinous incidents.

The Guwahati police on May 16th, 2019, arrested popular Assamese actress Jahnabi Saikia and pro-talk ULFA leader Pranamoy Rajguru in the Guwahati blast.

Acting on a tip-off, a special investigating team today launched a massive search operation and recovered one 9MM pistol, 35 rounds of live bullets, 70 kg of explosive materials used to make IEDs, ULFA-I flag, a scooty suspected to have been used in the blast and some objectionable documents from the possession of Saikia.

Security has been beefed up following the blast near the Guwahati Central shopping mall located at the RG Baruah road at around 8 pm on May 15th, 2019.

Assam Congress president Ripun Borah, Congress MP from Kaliabor Lok Sabha constituency Gaurav Gogoi, Congress leader Bobbeeta Sharma and Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio alson condemned the incident and demanded an investigation into the incident.

On May 15th, 2019, Ripun Borah slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party-led state government for its failure to maintain law and order in the state.
