Guwahati Blast: Police Hold Emergency Meeting With Hotel, Shopping Mall Authorities, Ask Them To Install CCTVs

The Guwahati police on May 16th, 2019 held an emergency meeting with the authorities of the city’s hotels, shopping malls, Nagarik Samiti and temple authorities following the grenade blast that rocked the city on May 15th, 2019.

The police have asked the authorities of all the organizations to install CCTVs in and around the premises of their respective organizations and also asked them to save backup footages of a month.

The police also requested the authorities to arrange security forces and cooperate with the police.

It may be mentioned, after the grenade blast, a total of 11 people sustained severe injuries in the blast. Two persons are said to be critical. Injured persons have been rushed to a Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), KGMT Hospital and Nemcare Super Speciality Hospital.

Two of the injured have been identified as Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawans Amulya Ratan Mahato and Ramesh Lal. The other injured are Fardeen Hasnain Rahman, Ahmed Kumar, Amit Kansal, Riya Kansal, Hirakjyoti Baruah, Kalyan Baishya, Adward Mama, Bijay Kumar Shah and Sultan Jahidur Rahman.

As per the latest information, a high alert has been announced in all entry and exit routes in the city and the grenade which was used for the blast was a Chinese grenade.

In the afternoon of May 16th, 2019, a team of Assam police conducted a search operation in a house located in Naamghar Path in Panjabari area and recovered a 9MM pistol, a flag of the outlawed militant outfit United Liberation Front of Asom – Independent (ULFA-I), 35 rounds of live bullets, 40 kilos of explosives, a grenade making machine and some documents. According to reports, a woman was detained from the house and she has been identified as Jahnabi Saikia.

According to reports, pro-talk ULFA member Pranamoy Rajguru was a regular visitor at Jahnabi’s house.
