Guwahati: Come 2023 and Guwahati city bus service will go green as the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) is likely to start operating compressed natural gas (CNG) buses in the city.

Following a cabinet decision earlier, ASTC was set to roll out the service which will eventually replace ASTC’s diesel-run city buses in Guwahati.

The state cabinet earlier decided to procure some 200 electric buses and 100 CNG buses for city commuting to reduce pollution and in a bid to explore alternate fuel-run transport.

Sources in ASTC claimed that at least 68 CNG buses were already dispatched and another 32 buses were about to be dispatched for the city. Meanwhile, two filling stations were set up at Ulubari and ISBT.
