Guwahati: Demanding the regularisation of jobs of 939 workers, GMC the contractual workers of Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) will stage a sit-in-demonstration programme on Friday against the corporation.
The workers will also stage serial protests from January 27 under the aegis of five organisations. They would also put a stop to all the services except for the water supply.
The GMC workers demanded to release their salary in time adding that government should provide pension to the families of the retired and dead workers.
The contractual workers further demanded that the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) and General provident Fund (GPF) which have been deducted from the employees should be reimbursed in their accounts.
Another demand raised by the workers is to provide pure drinking water to the citizens.
