Guwahati: The Government Railway Police (GRP) at Guwahati Railway Station on Wednesday seized around .332 gram gold from the Delhi-bound Rajdhani express (12423) and arrested one Tamil Nadu-based man in connection to the incident.
The arrested person was identified as Mohammad Mohiuddin.
“During a routine checking at around 6.30 am, a search operation was carried out by our GRP team in the Delhi-bound Rajdhani express (12423). After prolonged searching, we recovered two gold bars from the possession of a Tamil Nadu-based man in Bogie No. A4 berth number 39. Two gold bars weighing around .332 grams were seized,” said a GRP official.
The market value of the seized gold is suspected to be around Rs 15 lakhs.
During interrogation with the GRP, the arrested person confessed to having brought the gold from Dimapur, was en route to Delhi and had plans to move to Chennai, a GRP official said.
