    Guwahati Jail Declared Containment Zone After Inmate Tests Positive For Coronavirus

    Bathou Nagar, Geetamandir, Krishna Nagar and Goshala have also been declared as containment zone

    Guwahati: The Guwahati Central Jail has now been marked as a containment zone after one inmate was found positive of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The inmate, reportedly a vehicle lifter, was tested positive on Thursday.

    On Friday, in an order issued by the Kamrup Metro district administration stated that in view of the detection of COVID-19 positive patients at Central Jail here, in the interest of maintenance of public hygiene and to prevent further spread of COVID-19 virus in the said area, the Central Jail area was declared as a containment zone.

    However, the jail authorities claimed that the positive patient was detected from a separate quarantine ward set up inside the jail under the COVID safety manual.

    “He was brought to the jail on June 1 and was kept in one of the quarantine ward inside the jail. Other inmates were believed to be safe but a test would be done,” said Jail sources.

    As per the Kamrup Metro district order the BOUNDARY OF THE CONTAINMENT ZONE:

    North: Residence of Hiren Teron and Office of Coffee Board

    South: Adjacent Road to Central Jail

    East: SSB Camp and Assam Police Plot

    West: Main Gate of Central Gate

    Apart from the jail, Bathou Nagar, Geetamandir, Krishna Nagar and Goshala have been declared as containment zone as on June 5.

     “Any unauthorized entry and exit into the notified containment zone are barred till the area is declared safe as per guidelines of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. Any movement of an unauthorized Individual and vehicle within the notified area is also prohibited with immediate effect. Any violation of this order will attract action under the provisions of ‘The Assam COVID-19 Regulations, 2020″ “The Disaster Management Act-2005”, The Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 and other relevant laws of the nation,” the order said.

    Till filing of this report, Assam COVID count reached 2153 with 1648 active cases. Four persons have died so far and three were migrated.
