    Guwahati Lockdown Extends till July 19: E-commerce, Tea Warehouses Allowed to Operate

    Kamrup Metro administration to identify elderly citizens and sick persons at home and ensure availability of critical care

    Guwahati: Lockdown in Guwahati got extended for one more week. The two week long lockdown which is slated end on Sunday evening will now continue till 7 pm on July 19.

    While all government and private offices, business and commercial establishments will remain closed, stand alone grocery shops and standalone stationary shops dealing in personal hygiene goods are allowed to operate between 9 am and 4 pm from Monday to Friday.

    Besides house to house selling of fruits and vegetables between 8AM and 2 PM on these five days, e-commerce activities of supplying fruits, vegetables and other essentials are also permitted this time.

    However, the e-commerce activity will operate only between 10 AM and 4 PM from Monday to Friday.

    Keeping the auctioning season of tea in Assam, state’s tea warehouses are also allowed to operate from Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 6 PM with workforce remaining inside the premises.

    Operation of tea tasting, sampling, brokering and warehousing activities are allowed to function with 20 percent of total work force.   Operation of physical activities of Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC) including e-auction area also allowed with 20 percent workforce.

    After question were also raised on the conditions of the homeless or the daily wagers during the lockdown, the state government has also ordered the Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup Metropolitan to ensure supply of essential food items as relief to the poorest of the society.

    For the purpose, Deputy Commissioner is also asked to utilise the services of Social Welfare Department and non- essential staff of GMC and GMDA.

    NGOs willing to supply cooked food to the poor were asked to be given special passes by the district authority.

    “Identify elderly citizens and sick persons at home and put in place a mechanism to ensure availability of critical care where required,” the order said.

    The city police have also been asked to enforce the lockdown norms strictly.
