Guwahati: Assam Housing & Urban Affairs and Irrigation Minister Ashok Singhal has ordered strict inquiry into the pipe burst incident that occurred in Guwahati’s Kharguli area on Thursday.
Singhal took stock of the situation in the area where a drinking water pipe exploded causing in death of one person, injuring a few people and some damage to public properties.
Taking to Twitter, Singhal wrote, “Took stock of the situation at Kharguli, Guwahati where a drinking water pipe exploded causing in death of one person, injuring a few people and some damage to public properties. Met the families and victims of the accident.”
“Ordered strict inquiry in this matter”, he added.
Minister said that we have never heard about such an incident of water bursting out after hydro testing has been successfully done. However, the incident that has happened is very unfortunate.
“A detailed inquiry will be done in regard to this. There is a safety audit for all pipes laid. The entire situation will be investigated”, he added.
Meanwhile, the Revenue & Disaster Management Minister of Assam, Jogen Mohan has announced Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia to the family members of the deceased. While, the injured would be given Rs 10,000 each and Rs 5,000 each will be provided to the affected people for clothes and utensils.
He further added that we will provide free food and lodging to the 22 families who are seeking shelter at the relief camp.
