Guwahati: Guwahati police on Monday booked a travel agent for allegedly duping a man of Rs 1.8 lakh on the pretext of sending him abroad.
The accused, identified as Angshuman Pal, operated a tour company called “Visa Service and Discovery Tours and Travels” in the Paltan Bazar area.
As per sources, Pal defrauded a client who wanted to travel to the United Kingdom. However, the victim was defrauded of Rs 1.8 lakhs in the name of Visa and flight ticket booking by the accused.
On January 1, the victim had submitted the money, but when there had been no follow-up, he became concerned. Later, the victim lodged a complaint at the Chandmari Police Station, based on which the police took action to apprehend the fraudster.
The sources said that earlier too he had defrauded other victims in a similar manner. Currently, he has been kept for questioning.
Further investigation is underway.
